English club eyes summer move for Maignan

The Premier League club is looking at AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a summer bid on the table.

Among the main protagonists of AC Milan’s important win over Tottenham Hotspur was Mike Maignan. The 27-year-old French goalkeeper was ice cold between the posts on both matches playing a key role in the Rossoneri reaching the Champions League quarter finals. His save on Harry Kane in injury time was emblematic of his importantce and class.

Maignan has returned to fine form after being on the sidelines for around five months. The former Lille shot-stopper suffered a long wrist injury before the start of the World Cup but looks back to his best and the two Champions League encounters were a perfect example. CBS Sports reports that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Mike Maignan. The French goalkeeper was the specially observed in the two Champions League games and didn’t disappoint the test. Tottenham are looking at Mike Maignan to succeed Hugo Lloris whose contract with Spurs ends in one year.

Lloris is expected to leave the Premier League club after more than a decade of services. Tottenhan are already planning for life after Lloris and Maignan tops the list of targets according to reports. The English club could table a bid of €35 million in an attempt to convince AC Milan to sell Mike.

Nevertheless, that fee may not be enough. Despite having signed him for ‘just’ €15 million, AC Milan are not looking to make a profit on Maignan. The Frenchman is considered to be the best goalkeeper in Serie A. At the same time, Maignan is a leader of the AC Milan dressing room and is highly regarded by Paolo Maldini is a key figure of the Italian club.
